# How do I choose a culling profile in DeepCull?

${vimeo}[How do I choose a culling profile in DeepCull?](1225064489)

A culling profile tells FilterPixel's AI what kind of shoot it is looking at, and what a keeper looks like for that kind of work. Choosing one takes a few seconds and makes every pick that follows smarter.

## Step 1 — Start DeepCull
When you start a Deep Cull, the DeepCull window opens with **Auto (Smart)** already selected. Auto detects your shoot type for you, and it is the recommended choice when you are not sure.
The same window shows your remaining **Deep Cull credits** and how many keepers will be picked out of the photos in your project.

## Step 2 — Browse the profile library
Prefer to pick the theme yourself? Click **Choose**. The profile library opens with a search box at the top and profiles grouped by theme — 27 in total:
| **Category** | **Profiles** |
| **Event** | Wedding · Event Coverage · Corporate Events · Concerts · Dance & Performance |
| **Portrait** | Portraits & Headshots |
| **Sports** | Sports · Basketball · Baseball · BMX · Boxing & Combat · Cricket · Cycling · American Football · Gymnastics · Ice Hockey · Marathon & Running · Rugby · Soccer · Swimming · Tennis · Volleyball |
| **Others** | Wildlife · Bird Photography · Dog Action · Nature · Vacation & Travel |

Use the search box if you already know the name of the profile you want.

## Step 3 — See what a profile looks for (optional)
Every profile ships with its own set of culling criteria. Click the **pencil icon** on a profile card to read them. The Wedding profile, for instance, looks for tack-sharp key faces — bride, groom, family — and for the storytelling moments of the day, like the kiss, the vows and the first dance.
Every criterion is editable, so a profile is a starting point rather than a fixed rule. See *How do I customise culling criteria?*

## Step 4 — Apply it and cull
1.       Click the profile you want.
2.       Click **Use profile**. The DeepCull window returns with your profile applied.
3.       Optionally set how many keepers you want from the shoot.
4.       Click **Start Deep Cull**.
FilterPixel scores every frame against that profile. You will see **Deep Cull in progress…** — go grab a coffee, you will be notified when your best shots are ready.

## Good to know
•         **Not sure which profile fits?** Leave it on Auto — it detects the shoot type for you.
•         **A profile is a starting point.** Its criteria stay editable, before and after you apply it.
•         **Credits are per project.** The DeepCull window shows your remaining balance and the cost before you start.
